The key demands our client had to transform this typical Californian bungalow were to provide light, create clean simple lines, and a give a feeling of space and dimension that would meet the needs of a modern family.
A substantial site cut enabled a design solution that would make full use of a very large backyard area.
Within the existing structure, a bedroom was cleverly
converted into an ensuite and walk in robe. The remaining bedroom was enlarged significantly by the removal of the old bathroom and unnecessary hallway area to create a more desirable master bedroom space. The tired old kitchen became a walk through library with secluded wine storage room attached.
Two new bedrooms were then built, a laundry added and a spectacular modern kitchen and spacious family area created. The new areas are open plan, light filled and luxurious. A clever atrium feature placed between a new third bedroom and the family area allows sunlight into both rooms fulfilling the client's criteria in every respect.
From the front of this period style home the extension is barely visible, yet from the rear of the property the view presents a modern style residence complete with large windows and bi-fold doors onto a decked area perfect for outdoor entertaining.
