The owners of this elegant two bedroom weatherboard home required additional bedrooms that would cater for themselves and their four young children. We decided to build upstairs only and leave the backyard space intact.
The existing home was rich with period features, and the staircase design was developed so as to intrude as little as possible on the rooms that were to be retained. The finished stair allows for plenty of light flow from the upstairs area.
With the new staircase in place, the four bedrooms and new bathroom were designed around the stair gallery. In keeping with the period home style, box bay windows with gables were added to three of the new bedrooms, the bathroom and the gallery windows. To maintain the interior style from floor to floor, painted panel internal doors were used, with picture rails and period style cornices completing the picture.
